CISO Interview: Mike Baker, DXC Technologies

The role of a CISO is changing, and rapidly. But so is the threat landscape, and the technologies security leaders work with every day.

For Mike Baker, though, security is still very much a people business. As the vice president and global CISO at DXC Technologies, Baker heads a security team that serves 125,000 people across 60 countries, and counts a good share of the world’s most important companies, and government bodies, as its customers.

Managing this, he says, means looking at security “with a wide lens”. This ranges from geopolitics and cyber war, to AI and emerging technologies. And CISOs need to be open to change. All security professionals, including CISOs, need to continue to learn throughout their careers.

But organisations also need to build resilience, and this depends on resilient security teams.

Ensuring individuals can work under pressure is essential. But so is paying attention to career development across the security organisation.

And, as Baker points out, sometimes the most valuable lessons are learned in difficult times.
